The Feed in tariff (FIT) in Japan has achieved a certain increase of the RE ratio for the total power generation, but it has not been designed to allow its benefits to be sufficiently felt at regional and community levels. In response to the limitations of the design, this paper examines the RE self consumption model, rather than selling electricity by FIT, as a realistic path for regional communities to take. Promoting such a project design will enhance regional sustainability and lead to the realization of a better society.},
